Most people are intimately familiar with at least two optical systems, human eyes. It’s helpful to understand how human eyes operate in analogy to a camera, including a focusing optical system (cornea and crystalline lens), aperture control (pupil and iris), a broadband detector (retina), and an amazing computer (the brain’s striate cortex). The eye’s retina sees across the visible spectrum, with photoreceptor cone cells that are sensitive to red, green, and blue radiation.
